Introduction to Thermodynamics

The first and foremost question is "What is THERMODYNAMICS?". The definition is given as:

Thermodynamics is that branch of physical science that deals with the relations between heat and other forms of energy (such as mechanical, electrical, or chemical energy), and, by extension, of the relationships between all forms of energy.

 But then, just like Rancho in 3 Idiots tells us, that the definition should be in simple and more understanding language. Although you will still have to give the above definition in the exams, as our educational system is not flexible at all. A simple dissection of the term gives you the meaning as "transfer of heat and its effect on objects".

We all know that heat flows from hotter region to colder region, until both the regions reach same degree of hotness or coldness. So, what is heat? Whenever we say Heat, we tend to imagine Hot. Which is in a way correct, but there is more to this mystery.
